CEO catch-up

CEO Tony StuartCelebrating our older Australians

I recently had the privilege of celebrating momentous occasions with two of our very special Members, Nancy-Bird Walton and Mavis Blight.

I’ve known Nancy for many years and she continues to be a keen advocate on transport issues.

Flying with her in the first Qantas A380, which has been named in her honour, and later celebrating her 93rd birthday, were truly rewarding experiences.

Nancy is an icon of aviation in Australia, being the first female commercial pilot in Australia and flying with the Charles Kingsford Smith School. She continues to be an inspiration within the aviation and travel industry.

The second event was the unique opportunity to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mavis Blight, who has held continuous membership with NRMA for over 72 years.

The function was hosted by her son, none other than her own NRMA Regional Director, Graham Blight.

Both ladies remind me of NRMA’s wonderful heritage and how it has been such an important part in the lives of so many families and motorists over the years.

It is crucial we continue to recognise our older Members and I would welcome suggestions on what other services and support we can provide to members once they are past their active driving days.

To one and all, I wish you a safe and merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

There are always reminders to pay attention on our roads but it would be remiss of me not to urge you to take extra care and to be vigilant and patient on the roads again this holiday season.

I will be spending some quality time with my family over Christmas and the New Year and sincerely hope you can do likewise.
